Loom Knit Playroom Balls
Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Extra Soft Wool Blend

GAUGE:

13 stitches = about 4 in. (10 cm) using 2 strands of yarn. EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO THIS PROJECT. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

NOTES:

1. Each Ball is worked as a rectangle, then sewn to create a Ball.
2. Each Ball is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together. Before beginning to knit, re-wind each color of yarn as follows: holding the yarn tail that is on the outside of one yarn ball and the yarn tail that is buried in the center of the same ball, wind both strands into a 2-strand ball.
3. Follow loom manual instructions for SINGLE KNITTING for how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
4. The loom is configured into a rectangle to make it easier to hold, but the Ball is worked in rows across only one side of the loom.

Loom Configuration
Use the following pieces: (2) 12-hole pieces and (4) corner pieces.

Connect pieces to form a rectangle as follows: corner piece > corner piece > 12-hole piece > corner piece > corner piece > 12-hole piece.

Insert 12 small pegs into every hole along one 12-hole piece. Insert 2 small pegs into the corner piece to the left of this 12-hole piece and 3 small pegs into the corner piece to the right of this 12-hole piece - 17 working pegs placed.
Insert contrast color pegs in the connecting holes to hold loom together.

BALL (make one in each color)
Using 2 strands of yarn held together as one from one 2-strand ball, cast onto every working peg.
Knit one row, then purl one row until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beginning.
Bind off, leaving a long yarn tail.

FINISHING
Thread yarn tail of one piece into yarn needle provided with loom, then sew cast-on edge to bound-off edge to form a tube. Knot yarn tail, *then weave tail in and out through stitches along open end of tube. Gather end tightly together and knot tail to secure* Repeat from * to * once more to completely close opening.
Stuff piece with fiberfill. Thread needle with matching yarn, then weave needle in and out through stitches around remaining open end of tube and finish off as for first end. Thread yarn ends into same needle and weave ends to inside of Ball.
